What is counselling?

More About person centred counselling...

Counselling is a talking therapy where a person is encouraged to explore what they are going through. Counselling is a safe confidential environment where we can ‘be ourselves without fear of judgement or upsetting those close to us’. As a counsellor I believe we all have the power within to change but sometimes we need a helping hand.

Initially an assessment will take place and you and I together will discuss what you can expect from counselling. You will set the pace of the sessions and can discuss whatever you feel needs to be brought into the therapy room.

Will it work?

Counselling works for most people it all depends how much we really want to engage and work through our issues.  Why not give it a try?

General reasons people will give for not trying counselling...
  • “I don’t want to waste the counsellors time’”

  • “It doesn’t matter how I feel, I will cope”

  • “I’m scared I will be judged or laughed at”

  • “My stuff is insignificant compared to people who have been abused or traumatized in some way.”

  • “I need to be strong and asking for help says I am weak”

  • “It’s a waste of time”

  • “I don’t want to burden them”

  • “There’s a stigma with counselling, people will think that I can’t cope.”
